Mr. Strachan appears to have communicated to the Governor his desire to cede this land but to have expressed himself willing to retain it for a short time at a reduced rent in case doing so would not interfere with its ultimate resumption by Government. It appears, however, that he was not only unable to obtain that reduced rent for the land with the improvements upon it, but that those improvements having since been destroyed, he is now unable to obtain from it any rent whatever.
Under these circumstances, he prays that the Land may be resumed and the Governor recommends a compliance with this request, observing that the Surveyor General is of opinion that if offered for sale in small allotments, it might probably bring into Government the same amount Mr. Strachan now pays for it.
